If you have never heard about biogas or a biodigester then you are probably very intrigued and have a lot of questions!  We invite you to learn about HomeBiogas and how easily it can fit into your life here and with our Knowledge Center!

MOST POPULAR

HomeBiogas is an appliance you put in your backyard, which converts food leftovers and animal manure into biogas that can be used for cooking, as well as natural, liquid fertilizer for your garden.

HomeBiogas is compatible with both rural and peri-urban lifestyles. The appliance is ideal for families who live in a warm climate area in a detached or a semi-detached home with a garden.

Given the necessary circumstances, HomeBiogas 2.0 can produce up to 3 hours of cooking gas each day.

Yes. HomeBiogas 2.0 comes with a 24 month limited parts and materials waranty.

HomeBiogas 2.0 is shipped to you in a box. Unlike other biogas digesters, you do not need a technician to install the appliance. It is a do-it-yourself kit, that comes with all the necessary tools and detailed instruction manual. The appliance can be installed in 1 hour!

OPERATION

No. The appliance is 100% off-grid.

After installation, you must activate HomeBiogas 2.0. This may take between 2-4 weeks. After that, it should produce biogas 24/7, as long as you feed it with organic waste.

The appliance thrives on food leftovers and animal manure. Avoid feeding large quantities of citrus fruit skin and chicken droppings since both tend to reduce the effectiveness of the digestion.

If you go on vacation or don’t have a lot of waste, don’t worry. The bacteria will breakdown all the organic waste inside the digester, and then stop producing gas. Once you get back to feeding the appliance, it will return to continuous biogas production.

PERFORMANCE

You can feed HomeBiogas with whatever leftovers you have! There is no minimum amount. The maximum amount you can feed HomeBiogas daily is 12 liters (12qt) of food waste mixed with water or 40 liters (40qt) of animal manure mixed with water. Unlike composters, HomeBiogas can accept all food, including meat, fish, oil and fats.

Every liter of food waste put into the appliance produces about 200 liters of gas, the amount needed to cooking for one hour over a high flame. On average, HomeBiogas produces up to 3 hours of cooking gas each day – the perfect amount for a family!

A full HomeBiogas 2.0 gas tank  can fuel a one-blade barbecue grill for about 1.5 hours, and can fuel a typical stove burner for about 3 hours. Learn more about stove options here.

The appliance can store up to 700 liters of biogas at any given time, indefinitely. The biogas will remain in the gas bag until used.

Yes! HomeBiogas 2.0 converts waste into biogas all the time, 24/7, so long as you feed it with organic waste and the surrounding temperature is warm enough.

SAFETY

HomeBiogas is not only safe, it is safer than LPG and propane!

In order to remain in a liquefied state in storage, LPG must be kept under high-pressure conditions. This poses a greater risk of explosion when in the vicinity of an ignition source. HomeBiogas 2.0, on the other hand, purposefully stores the gas in a soft case, at a low pressure, which prevents explosion.

Biogas is made up of small molecules which are lighter than air. When released into the surrounding environment, the biogas loses its ability to ignite and will quickly diffuse upwards, leaving the premise immediately.

On the contrary, LPG and Propane sink to the ground, increasing the risk of toxic levels of exposure.

HomeBiogas has taken every precaution necessary to ensure that our appliances meets all safety standards.

-HomeBiogas was tested by and received the European Community CE stamp of approval for safety.

-HomeBiogas received two ISO certifications: certification 9000 for Quality Management and 14000 for Environmental Management.

-Lastly, HomeBiogas was tested by and approved for safety and health by the Israeli Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Ministry of Energy Infrastructure.

MAINTENANCE

We recommend maintaining your HomeBiogas 2.0 unit periodically by:

1. Replacing its gas filter once a year. The gas filter removes the hydrogen sulfide from the biogas.

2. Replacing the chlorine tablet if it has dissolved completely. The chlorine tablet disinfects the remaining bacteria in the liquid fertilizer.

ADDITIONAL INFO

HomeBiogas 2.0 is made to function in an average of 20 degree C temperature. If you live in a much colder climate, you will need to take steps to warm the appliance to an average of 20 degrees, so that it will work properly.

1) Add an electric aquarium heater to heat the digester tank.
2) Place the system in a greenhouse that is warm and has proper ventilation.

No. HomeBiogas does not smell. There is a filter installed in the system to eliminate any unpleasant odors, and the appliance is designed with a cover that seals the inlet. This means that odors are contained inside the system and unlike with composting, no pests are attracted.
